About Us

Working closely with Japanese artisans with generations of traditional knowledge and innovative techniques, Simply Native Japan aims to introduce Japanese craftsmanship into the modern Australian lifestyle.

Not only can you touch and feel the products yourself, but you can also ask us about the craftsmen’s stories behind each product. We have over 400 pieces of craftwork from all over Japan that were hand picked by the owner, Yukino. We also offer bespoke interior materials for your new / renovating house, and even custom-made commercial tableware just for your restaurant.

Our Story

The products are thoughtfully selected by the owner Yukino herself. Yukino is a daughter of a traditional Kimono (Japanese clothing textiles) family from Kagoshima, Japan. She has grown up appreciating Japanese traditions and craftsmanship, by always enjoying being with her father’s side while he works and with his workmates who were artisans.

Back in Japan, Yukino worked with a Japanese government organisation where she dealt with introducing Japanese crafts overseas. There, she rediscovered her passion in the industry, but at the same time, she became aware of the challenges facing artisans. Understanding how hard it can be to pass on the traditional knowledge of craftsmanship in Japan now, Yukino makes sure that the artisans she works with will benefit the most for a sustainable partnership.

Simply Native Japan was first founded in 2016 to introduce Japanese bespoke interior materials to architects in Sydney, Australia. Gradually, Yukino has received many inquiries about giftwares as well. As she started Simply Native Japan with the belief that beauty can be found in the simplest form with craftsmanship and the connection to the artisan, she has decided to expand her business to bespoke interior materials and giftwares in 2021.
